Riding at Weston Farm

 spirit at weston farm

The south Pentland hills and the northern Scottish Borders remain relatively undeveloped and unexplored areas for riders but provide the opportunity for experiencing some fantastic riding and the farm is an ideal base for a range of different abilities and ambitions. You may be looking for:

·         plenty of varied  off-road hacking over 900 acres of farmland, with various circular routes taking anywhere between 30 minutes and two hours.  Features include a disused railway line and opportunities for long canters across the moor and through the wood. There is also the opportunity for sustained hill and fast work up the long sloping fields in front of the house, perhaps in preparation for TREC or endurance.

   ·         an overnight stop en route to an event of competition or to take part in          local events, competitions and clinics.

·         longer half and full day rides on directly accessible old drove roads, taking       circular and linear routes of various lengths.  perhaps over the hills to the            Covenanter's Grave or following the Roman road to West Linton, taking in a       stunning and isolated landscape.

·         a base for exploring some of the many longer distance, newly mapped routes       nearby and accessible within 30 minutes by trailer or lorry such as routes on       the newly mapped South Lanarkshire riding routes, the Pentland Hills   Regional Park and the John Buchan Way.

·         a starting or finishing point on the South of Scotland Countryside Trails network and rides stretching   as far as the Ae Forest, the Cheviots,       Esdkdalemuir or even Northumberland via the Border towns.

·         a combination of 'trail and train' with the opportunity to book lessons with       experienced BHS registered trainers

We have maps and guides to all of these rides but would recommend that you also bring the relevant OS maps as well.

We have a 60 x 22 silica sand and fibre arena available for lessons and schooling. We will be holding training events from time to time - please see our news page for the latest schedule.
